Western Slope Vineyards to Visit During Your Trip to CAO

Since opening in 2020, Colorado Advanced Orthopedics has rapidly developed into a popular medical tourism destination, as a large portion of our patients come from other parts of the state and around the country to benefit from the top-tier orthopedic surgeons at our clinic. While the exceptional patient care and outcomes from our board-certified, fellowship trained surgeons are the primary force behind this trend, CAO’s location in the White River Valley provides another incentive for patients to come from out of town. There is no shortage of activities to enjoy around here, allowing out-of-town patients to bring their families along for a nice vacation while they undergo their procedure.

One of the more popular activities our patients enjoy is a tour of the local vineyards and wineries of the region. Meeker is just a short drive from Grand Junction and Palisade, which form the heart of Colorado’s burgeoning wine country. With over 30 wineries and tasting rooms in Palisade and Grand Junction, our out-of-town guests can experience a lovely afternoon tasting the best wines our state has to offer.

If you’re considering planning a wine tasting trip to Grand Junction and Palisade during your trip to Colorado Advanced Orthopedics, the following guide will give you the scoop on the best wineries to visit.

Restoration Vineyards

Restoration Vineyards is a family-owned vineyard producing wines from grapes grown exclusively on-site. You’ll experience stunning views of the Grand Mesa and Book Cliff mountains during your tasting, allowing you to soak in the beautiful landscape over a glass of wine. Music fans should visit during Restoration’s Band in the Barrel series, where local musicians perform on their stage surrounded by vintage Mercedes-Benzes. These music events provide an enhanced ambiance to enjoy their wine.

Colterris Winery

Colterris owns and farms all of their vineyards, and all their wines are 100% made from local Colorado grapes. This winery is known for its beautiful outdoor space, panoramic views of the Roan Plateau, and knowledgeable staff. There’s a good reason Colterris is one of the most popular wineries in the area – they’re wine is truly exceptional, and they’ve earned several prestigious awards, including two double gold medals at the 2023 San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Carlson Vineyards

They boast a vast roster of wines, ensuring they have options that appeal to the preferences of just about every wine aficionado. If you want to keep sampling their wines after the patio closes, you can take a short drive over to their second tasting room in downtown Grand Junction, which stays open two hours later.

Bookcliff Vineyards

Bookcliff Vineyards has been making wine in Colorado for over 20 years. As the name of their winery implies, you’ll enjoy picturesque views of the Book Cliff mountains while sampling their award-winning wine. They consistently earn spots in the Colorado Governor’s Cup collection, an annual series featuring 12 bottles of Colorado’s best wines, and they’ve been named Governor’s Cup winner twice.

Red Fox Cellars

Red Fox Cellars is a family-owned vineyard that has distinguished itself as one of the more unique wineries in the Grand Junction/Palisade area. Their creative approach to winemaking includes wines aged in bourbon, rye whiskey and dark rum barrels, as well as several wines featuring Italian grapes. They offer a dog-friendly patio with beautiful views.

Carboy Winery

Carboy Winery is one of the most popular vineyards in the area, and for good reason. Last year it was ranked sixth in USA Today’s Best Wine Tasting Rooms list. This winery offers stunning views of Mount Garfield and the Book Cliff Mountains from their rooftop patio, making it one of the more scenic locations to enjoy a glass of wine.

Two Rivers Winery & Chateau

This family-owned winery in Grand Junction is a must-stop on your local wine tour. Located on 15 acres near the Colorado National Monument, Two Rivers Winery & Chateau boasts some of the most beautiful views of any winery on this list. You can enjoy a variety of award-winning wines in their tasting room, take a tour of their facility to see the winemaking process in action, and explore the French chateau on-site.
