About the Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award

The Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award recognizes the top 10% of orthopedic clinics nationwide for their exceptional patient outcomes on total hip replacement and total knee replacement surgeries. Colorado Advanced Orthopedics was one of 152 hospitals in the United States to earn this honor.

To determine the winners of this award, Healthgrades evaluated the clinical patient outcomes of orthopedic facilities across the country. The primary factor evaluated was patient complication rates for knee replacement and hip replacement procedures. The Healthgrades data demonstrated that on average, patients undergoing joint replacement surgeries at orthopedics clinics receiving the Joint Replacement Excellence Award experienced a 38% lower risk of developing a complication compared with patients treated at other hospitals across the country.

About the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award

The Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes the top 15% of hospitals nationwide that provide an exceptional experience for patients throughout their hospital stay. To identify the top hospitals worthy of this award, Healthgrades evaluated ten patient experience metrics based on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey data. Over 2,500 hospitals who submitted at least 100 HCAHPS patient experience surveys were eligible for consideration for this prestigious award.

The patient experience survey was sent to a random sample of patients between two days and six weeks after their discharge from the hospital to gather information about the patients’ perspectives on the care they received. The survey evaluated the following ten patient experience metrics:

• Overall rating of the patient’s hospital experience
• Willingness to recommend the facility to family/friends
• Communication with doctors
• Communication with nurses
• Responsiveness of hospital staff
• Communication about medicines
• Cleanliness of patient rooms and bathrooms
• Quietness during evening/night hours
• Discharge information (did patients receive all pertinent information regarding what to do during their recovery at home?)
• Care transition (how well did hospital staff inform patients about their care needs when they were released from the hospital?)

Based on the patient feedback contained in these surveys, Pioneers Medical Center ranked in the top tier of hospitals evaluated to achieve this award.
