Colorado Advanced Orthopedics is committed to providing individuals on the Western Slope with the same exceptional healthcare outcomes typically found in major metropolitan areas. In recent years, we’ve worked with an increasing number of student-athletes after sports injuries, helping them return to their sport and resume peak performance levels.
We want to highlight a recent patient who worked with CAO’s Dr. Rhett Griggs to recover from an ACL tear suffered during a high school basketball game in the winter of 2023. The patient, Jonathan F., was committed to playing college baseball the following year, and his basketball ACL injury jeopardized his college athletics plans.
Two other members of the CAO staff, our sports medicine specialist, Dr. Justin Grant, and our athletic trainer, Lindsey Short, referred Jonathan to Dr. Griggs. Dr. Griggs was an excellent fit for Jonathan’s needs due to his emphasis on providing comprehensive care that focuses on his patients’ well-being.
“I was fully aware that time was running out and realized that Dr. Griggs’ expertise would be crucial in navigating my injury,” Jonathan said. “His detailed explanations of my options demonstrated his understanding of my unique challenges as an athlete. Dr. Griggs’ willingness to address all my questions and provide clear guidance allowed me to confront my surgery and rehabilitation confidently.”
Jonathan’s surgery was extremely successful, and he worked with CAO’s in-house physical therapy team for his post-surgical rehab. He completed all his physical therapy sessions and diligently performed the assigned at-home exercises. Four months after his ACL surgery, he ran a 5k race. Five months after surgery, he pitched five innings for his summer baseball team and was a full participant in his college preseason bullpen practices.
