Colorado is home to some of the most legendary, world-class ski resorts in the country, and it should come as no surprise that many of these mountains host some of the biggest ski and snowboard events each year. You have numerous opportunities to watch the best skiers and snowboarders in the world compete against each other all winter long.
Most of Colorado’s best ski resorts are driving distance from Meeker, making many of these ski and snowboard events easily accessible from our town. In fact, many of our out-of-town patients at Colorado Advanced Orthopedics will coordinate their orthopedic surgery with one of these ski events, providing their family with a great way to spend the weekend. Whether you’re a Meeker local or you’re visiting from out of town, the following ski and snowboard events are worth catching.
Vail and Beaver Creek are hosting the Birds of Prey World Cup races December 1-3, 2023. These races feature the best skiers in the world competing in Alpine Super G, Downhill and Giant Slalom competitions. Beaver Creek’s Birds of Prey racecourse is renowned as one of the most challenging downhill courses in the world.
Copper Mountain is hosting the FIS Snowboard World Cup Halfpipe Big Air Competition December 13-16, 2023. This competition features an aerial display by the world’s most accomplished snowboarders. Witness tricks and highly technical maneuvers that will take your breath away.
This event is a little different than the other competitions listed here, but it is a must-see nonetheless. The Bud Light Cowboy Downhill takes place in Steamboat on January 15, 2024. Now in its 49th year, this event began when Steamboat’s director of skiing, Billy Kidd, collaborated with six-time all-around World Champion cowboy Larry Mahan to create a truly unique event. Witness 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys competing in a variety of ski events, including a dual slalom course, a stampede event, and more.
The FIS Men’s World Cup will be held in Aspen on March 2-3, 2024. This is the second of three FIS Men’s World Cup events being held this winter, with the final event scheduled in Austria later in March. The Aspen event will feature the top men’s skiers in the world competing in Giant Slalom and Slalom events.
The Winter Dew Tour ski and snowboard competition will be held in Copper Mountain on March 8-10, 2024. The Winter Dew Tour features the world’s best skiers and snowboarders competing in individual Superpipe and Streetstyle events. This is the 20th year of the Winter Dew Tour, and there will be special events to commemorate this major milestone.
