Colorado is one of the biggest skiing and snowboarding hotbeds in the country, with dozens of world-class ski resorts throughout the state. While these mountains give you ample opportunities to carve up the deep powder on the slopes, you can also take some time out to watch some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the world compete.
Many of Colorado’s premier resorts host large ski and snowboarding events throughout the winter and since most of these mountains are within driving distance of Meeker, you can easily plan your orthopedic surgery medical tourism visit around one of these events. This would give your family an opportunity to spend a great weekend witnessing the best of the best while you undergo your procedure.

Each year, Beaver Creek hosts the Birds of Prey World Cup Races, where the top men and women downhill skiers around the world compete on one of the most challenging downhill courses in the country. This event also features Super G and Giant Slalom races, live music, a live race watch party, ski movies and sponsor giveaways.
The Birds of Prey World Cup Races are being held from December 6-16, 2024.
If you visit Copper Mountain for the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix, you should also check out the inaugural year of the Winter X Games Street Style Pro. This event represents a partnership between the X Games and U.S. Ski & Snowboard. Events are being held December 20-21, 2024, and the winners will receive invites to the X Games in Aspen.
This year marks the 50th installment of this iconic event. Back in 1974, Steamboat’s director of skiing, Billy Kidd, reached out to six-time all-around World Champion cowboy, Larry Mahan, about inviting some of the top Pro Rodeo stars to the mountain for a day of skiing. The event was a huge success, becoming an annual event. This year, over 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys will compete in a variety of unique ski events, including a dual slalom race where cowboy skiers race down a dual slalom course, go over a jump, lasso a person and saddle a horse before crossing the finish line. Other highlights of the event include a stampede, a cowboy downhill drone show, and a learn-to-rope clinic.
The Bud Light Cowboy Downhill takes place at Steamboat on January 20, 2025.
If you can’t make it to Aspen for the X Games, you have another shot to enjoy a ski and snowboard competition in this great town. The Toyota U.S. Grand Prix returns to Colorado for the second time this winter with a big event in Aspen featuring Freeski Slopestyle, Snowboard Halfpipe, Freeski Halfpipe, Snowboard Slopestyle, and ski and snowboard Big Air competitions. This event spans two weekends, with the halfpipe and slopestyle events taking place Feb 1-2, 2025, and the big air events occurring on Feb 6.
Head to Beaver Creek the weekend of February 27-March 2, 2025 for the American Airlines Celebrity Ski and enjoy a fabulous weekend that supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This event offers:
Aspen is hosting the first year of Shaun White’s new professional snowboarding league, called The Snow League. Top snowboarders around the world will compete the weekend of March 7-8, 2025, showcasing their skills in a league that brings a fresh format to snowboarding. There will be a focus on head-to-head matchups as well as a season-long points system, with a champion crowned at the end.
